Bengal governor condoles Mahasweta Devi's death

KOLKATA: Bengal governor Keshari Nath Tripathi send a condolence message to Mahasweta Devi's family.

The message stated: "I am deeply grieved by the sad demise of Padmabibhusan Mahasweta Devi, a renowned author and social activist. She was famous for her writings and work related to the study of Lodhas and Shabars, the tribal communities of West Bengal, women and dalits. She depicted the burtal oppression of tribal people and untouchables by potent authoritarian land lords, lenders and venal government officials."

"Mahasweta Devi received many awards including Jnanpith and Ramon Magsaysay. Her notable literary works like “Hazar Churasir Maa”, "Aranyer Adhikar" and "Titu Mir" are internationally famous."
