Bar singer link to drug racket in Tiljala and Picnic Garden
KOLKATA: Two days after two college students and the gang leader - who is a computer engineer - were arrested for their alleged role in procuring party drugs like Ecstacy and Yaba through the dark web for two years, cops on Friday said the accused frequented two pubs in the Tiljala and Picnic Garden areas where they employed bar singers to mediate in their favour. The narcotics net, investigators claimed, has spread across these pubs, where students and techies are first lured into consumption of synthetic drugs and then turned into peddlers. The cops said they had spoken to the parents of all three accused. "It is a long chain, but we have leads," said an officer. Sources said they have been able to decipher how the computer engineer managed to access the dark web. "The engineer had opened an account in his name. To access the dark web, one has to have an account dealing in bitcoin. It is certain that he had a mentor who initiated him into the drug world. We are searching for this person," said a source. The police said accused Mehboob Alam, who is from Mumbai and has links in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, and Tiljala Road resident Pervez Ahmed, who gave leads to cops on the three students, were helping them to identify the other gang members as well.
