Bail for sixth schoolbus attack accused

KOLKATA: A judicial magistrate court at Barrackpore on Saturday granted bail to Nikhilananda Majumdar — the sixth to be arrested in connection to the incident on Wednesday in which a DPS Megacity schoolbus was attacked allegedly by BJP workers. Majumdar was arrested under the Maintenance of Public Order Act, 1972, but the police could not produce a government order for slapping such an act.

Appearing for the accused, lawyer Somnath Chakraborty argued that the police have not produced any government order to arrest the persons under sections 8 and 9 of the MPO Act. “It is mandatory before police slap a person with MPO Act,” Chakraborty said.

ACJM Barrackpore Md Rafikul Alam had earlier sent four persons accused in the same incident to police custody and one to judicial custody.
