KOLKATA: The city’s artists rang in Poila Baisakh by celebrating Leonardo Da Vinci’s birth anniversary — declared World Art Day by the Unesco-backed International Association of Art in 2012 — on Saturday.

More than a 100 art-lovers, ‘chhau’ dancers, ‘ranpa’ performers, dhakis and renowned artists, like Jogen Chowdhury, Samir Aich, Partha Dasgupta, Surajit Banik and Samindra Bhowmick, walked from Golpark to Deshapriya Park. They sported hand-painted masks and carried banners with messages, like ‘every child is an artist’ and ‘save art, save museum’. “Da Vinci was born on April 14, 1452, but his works still unite people, ” said Chowdhury.
