Arjun goes to HC on CID summons
Kolkata: Former Barrackpore MP and BJP politician Arjun Singh approached Calcutta High Court on Wednesday, challenging a notice issued by the state CID for questioning in connection with an alleged Rs 4.5 crore scam in Bhatpara municipality. The case is likely to be taken up on Monday.Advocate Mayukh Mukherjee mentioned the matter before the bench of Justice Tirthankar Ghosh. "The petitioner is the prominent leader of opposition in Barrackpore. He was associated with the governing party for about 19 years. During his political shift to the opposition, a series of cases were registered. In one such case, he approached Calcutta High Court and protection was granted," Mukherjee said.The recent summons by the state CID is related to a four-year-old financial corruption case. Singh was asked to be at the CID headquarters at Bhawani Bhavan on Nov 12, a day before six Bengal assembly seats go for bypolls.
