Amit Chaudhuri’s excited about his recent achievement

Author Amit Chaudhuri couldn't have woken up to a more wonderful surprise recently than being made an

honorary fellow

by the

Modern Language Association

in the US.

"In the midst of the

pandemic

when the entire world is grappling to stay afloat receiving such a happy news was pleasantly surprising. All of a sudden I received this letter from the Modern Language Association informing me about the selection. I have no idea about their process. There is usually a nomination process. So, someone must have nominated me and then the academics has to agree and vote for me," he said.

He recently took to social media to share his happiness. He wrote, 'Some news from last week: I was made an honorary fellow by the Modern Language Association in

America

, a recognition given to ‘distinguished men and women of letters of any nationality’. Despite not being distinguished, I saw no harm in accepting - here’s the fairly limited roll of present and past fellows, which actually includes many I admire:'.

When asked was he informed about any formal ceremony taking place later, he said, "The list is quite limited. But they have informed that later in January 2021 they will announce two more names at a formal ceremony held in the US. Looking at the pandemic, I don't think the honorary fellows will be required to be present at show. May be it will be an online arrangement."

This apart, his online classes and a new book is keeping him busy in the unlock phase. "The plan is that I will return to the UK on October 4. Meanwhile, I have started taking online classes. The pandemic has changed the thought processes of people at universities and we all are trying to cope with it. But I hope that in the end we all will wade through the difficulties. I have also finished work on my book, which is an essayist's non-fiction, and it deals with my relationship with music," he shared.
