KOLKATA: The crisis over the availability of anti diphtheria serum (ADS) in Kolkata has been averted for the time being as infectious disease hospitals in Jaipur and New Delhi have promised to send the serum.

though the crisis has been averted in kolkata, district hospitals do not have any supply of the serum, with practically no possibility of getting new stocks as well. a crisis of ads, the most potent medicine for diphtheria, started from july as the old stock in the hospial was exhausted and the manufacturers, hapkins laboratory, claimed that they will not be able to supply the ads before december. meanwhile, after the death of rajiv mallik, the 13-year-old boy from siliguri, no other patients has died of the disease and 24 patients admitted in the hospital are recovering, dr das informed. "we are taking extra precautions and all the patients are doing fine at the moment" he said.
