According to Saurabh Debnath, secretary of the local club who arranged for Banerjee's rescue, Subir had approached local resident Rajib Ghosh 11 months ago and the mother-son duo shifted to his house as tenants. "The son left in October after locking up his

mother

. When no one saw the woman for two days, Ghosh informed police and they broke in to find her lying in bed. We realized she couldn't even walk. Since then, Ghosh and other locals had been taking care of her. But when her condition worsened, we asked the police to shift her to hospital,"said Debnath.
