KOLKATA: Eight live bombs were found near a primary school in the Habra area on Monday, triggering panic among locals and prompting a swift security response, officials said.
Police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area after the recovery was reported.
The incident comes amid heightened concern over the recovery of explosives in Bhangar.
Earlier, the Centre ordered a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the recovery of 79 crude bombs in Bhangar on Saturday.
According to the order, the Centre said it was of the opinion that a scheduled offence under the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008, had been committed. It added that the case involved the illegal storage and handling of explosives and crude bombs intended to endanger lives and property and create fear among the public.
On Saturday, police from North Kashipur station had raided an abandoned house near a burial ground at Poilepara, where they recovered 79 round-shaped objects tied with jute ropes resembling crude bombs, along with other incriminating materials.
Further investigation is underway in both cases.
