Kolkata: 74-year-old man jumps from terrace, dies

KOLKATA: Rup Kumar Chowdhury (74) — a retired engineer — allegedly died by suicide as he jumped off the terrace of their 10-storey building in a New Town housing complex on Wednesday morning. The former central government employee had shifted to the complex 14 years ago.
He is survived by his wife and two sons, both of whom are settled in the US. The body has been kept at a city mortuary, while the family awaits for the sons to return.“His wife, Sikha, said Chowdhury had been on medication for a long time. Even earlier, he had tried to commit suicide,” said an officer. Cops have started an unnatural death case but said the incident preliminarily looked like a suicide.
