"The truck was going towards Bypass along Canal South Road while the cab was coming from the opposite direction. The accident was reported around 5.30am. Three locals walking nearby were injured," said an officer.

All seven injured victims were taken to NRS Hospital, where they were treated and discharged. The three pedestrians - Kunti Das (45), Basanti Das (35) and Smiti Das (35) - had greater injuries than those travelling on the mini-truck - A Malik (24), T Dhara (28) and A Paul (30). Pragati Maidan cops arrested both drivers and seized both vehicles.

"The major issue in Tangra at night and morning is illumination. We reported the issue to the civic agencies many times," said an officer.

Cops are also prosecuting the truck driver for ferrying people on the vehicle.
