KOLKATA: A 64-year-old woman was found living with the body of her 90-year-old mother at their Badan Roy Lane home in Beliaghata at least for three days. Since Sunday night, locals started getting a foul smell from the house and when one of the neighbours asked her, she said her mother had passed away.
Her mother, Namita Ghosal, was seen last four days ago. "Around 8am on Monday, we rescued her daughter who seems to be suffering from mental illness. She was kept at the police station and cops are consulting with psychiatrists. She is likely to be admitted to a hospital. We are taking medical advice before approaching the Pavlov authorities," said DC (ESD) Priyabrata Roy.
"When the daughter of the deceased told me that she had been living with the body of her mother, I had gone to her house. I was shocked to see that the body of the nonagenarian was lying on the bed while her daughter was sitting beside her.
The body was swollen and started decomposing," said Triranjan Banerjee, a neighbour. According to locals, Ghosal's husband, Nihar Ranjan, had a business and the family ran into financial constraints after his death.
