travelled all the way to trigger a powerful nor’wester in the city on Thursday evening. Alipore recorded a maximum wind speed gusting up to 58kmph at 7.12pm, but it did not qualify as a squall.

While the thundershower came as a relief, the Met office said the humid and discomfort factors will continue as the city is unlikely to get regular nor’westers and there is no chance of monsoon arriving in the next four to five days.

“There is no progress in the monsoon flow. But due to heating, we can expect a nor’wester spell on alternate days in the next two to three days,” said

A flight from Delhi to Andal was diverted to Kolkata after a thunderstorm over

Durgapur

. Winds forced the captain to abort landing at Andal and take IndiGo flight 6E 2146 with 160 passengers to Kolkata at 6.10pm. Of the 160 flyers, 15 alighted at Kolkata. The flight left for Andal at 7.40pm and reached in 30 minutes.
