4 killed in Howrah accidents

HOWRAH: Four persons were killed and three injured in two different accidents in Howrah on Wednesday. The condition of one of the injured persons was reported to be serious. The other two were left after primary treatment.
Police said two lorries had a head-on collision at Chandrapur under Bagnan police station area on NH6 on Wednesday evening, when the driver of one of the vehicles lost control and hit the other lorry coming from the opposite direction.Drivers of both the lorries and a helper died on the spot. They were identified as Md Mansur Ansari (30), Md Mohiudiin (25) and Afroz Ansari (20).

According to the police a Kharagpur bound lorry carrying construction materials had a brake fail and lost control and hit another lorry coming from the opposite direction carrying iron ore. Three of the four drivers and helpers of both the lorries died on the spot. Another identified as Sk Shahjad was rushed to Uluberia sub-divisional hospital in a serious condition. The three dead are identified as - Md Mansur Ansari, 30, Md Mohiuddin , 25, and Afroz Ansari , 20.
"The front portion of both the lorries were smashed and we had to break into the drivers cabin to take out the bodies. The fourth person jumped out of the lorry and so he didn't die but his condition is very serious. We have sent the bodies for post mortem and have informed the families of the deceased and they will come and identify the bodies," an investigating officer said.
In another accident, a 24-year-old youth Md Selim was killed when his bike skidded on the Santragachi bridge near Kona Expressway
and hit the roadside fencing. He was a resident of Shibpur. tnnAccording to police Selim- a resident of Shibur police station area had a serious skull fracture and died on the spot. Two others pillion riding on his bike sustained some injuries but were left after primary treatment.
