KOLKATA: CID has announced a cash reward of Rs 3 lakh to track down the killers of Sushil Pal. State police director-general Shyamal Dutta recently passed the order. The announcement comes nearly two months after the CID started probe into the Pal murder case (Pal, a doctor, was murdered on July 2). Till date, the investigative agency has failed to identify the killers and establish the motive behind the murder.
The message from the CID headquarters in Bhabani Bhawan was sent across to the neighbouring districts.
CID officers believe that Pal was a known figure in the region, many people could give information on him.
"Everyday, he took a local train to the hospital. There must be some people with whom he had developed contacts during the trips. Some of them could throw light about where he was going the day he was murdered," a CID officer said. The CID is focussing on places like Bally, Chinsurah, Uttarpara and Serampore. "He was attached to a Serampore hospital and was also involved with several clinics in other parts of the district," the officer said.
Pal was a gynaecologist at Walsh Hospital in Serampore. On July 2, he had left his Bright Street residence in Kolkata saying he was heading for the hospital. But he never turned up at the hospital. His body was found on July 3 in a canal in Santragachhi.
Investigation revealed that he went to a Bally clinic. The CID had picked up several local criminals suspected of involvement in the case. The owner of a medicine shop was also arrested but the leads could not be established.
CID sources said so far there not much headway has been made. "We are hopeful of some development soon," said an officer.
