3 killed in Bongaon accident

Three persons were killed and two seriously injured after a Tata Sumo in which they were travelling rammed into a tree on Bagda Road in Chandabazar near Bongaon, North 24-Parganas, on Friday night.

BONGAON: Three persons were killed and two seriously injured after a Tata Sumo in which they were travelling rammed into a tree on Bagda Road in Chandabazar near Bongaon, North 24-Parganas, on Friday night.
Police said the accident took place around 11.30pm, when the Tata Sumo carrying five passengers was on its way to Chandpara in Bongaon from Panshila, South 24-Parganas.

The driver of the car suddenly lost control while trying to overtake a truck and rammed into a tree. Sattya Ranjan Biswas, 40, died on the spot while Palash Biswas, 30, and Prasanta Biswas succumbed to their injuries in Bongaon Jiban Ratan Dhar Subdivisional Hospital. Two other passengers in the car were later admitted to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in critical condition.
Local residents alleged that the car was being driven at breakneck speed by a youth who was allegedly inebriated state.
A police seized the Tata Sumo. The victims' bodies were sent for post-mortem.
