The three, Inzamamul Haque (24), Monirul Islam (23) and Rajibul Mallik (26), had created a fake WhatsApp account in the name of the company’s director with its logo and asked its finance department to release the money.

DC (cyber) Atul V said, “The case was registered on December 3 last year. Misled by the messages received from the fake WhatsApp account of the director, the employees of the firm sent the money to a bank account operated by the accused.”

During a probe cops found the money had been transferred to an account at Barpeta in Assam and then routed through some other mule accounts. On a tip-off, a raid was conducted at the village in Assam, where the accused landed in the police net.

“Cops produced the three in the CJM court at Barpeta, Assam, seeking their transit remand,” said Atul.
