KOLKATA: Sourav Biswas, a climber from Kanchrapara, who had gone to Mount Draupadi ka Danda-II for the advanced training of Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, is still missing, along with another of the 41-member team.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, body of Sandip Sarkar — a climber from New Barrackpore — reached Kolkata airport in the evening. Family members of Sarkar, apart from members of a local club — Mountain Quest — were present, along with state sports minister Aroop Biswas and finance minister Chandrima Bhattacharya.

“We have lost another climber from Bengal during a climb at Kedarnath. His fellow climber has been injured and is hospitalised,” said Debashis Biswas, a mountaineer from Kolkata.

Alok Biswas (34), a resident of Saguna in Nadia, died on the Ransi-Kedarnath trek route where he was stranded since Saturday. The injured trekker, who was rescued has been identified as Vikram Mazumdar (38), a resident of 24 South Parganas. The duo were part of a group of 10 trekkers. Their health started to deteriorate on October 8 and the group members decided to return. They later informed police about their fellow climbers who were stranded.
