2013 Kasba kidnap: Five get life in jail

Kolkata: Five persons have been convicted by the additional sessions judge, 8th Court of Alipore, for kidnapping of two persons from Kasba in 2013, demanding Rs 6 crore as extortion and murdering one of the victims. All the accused have been sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 has been slapped on each of them.
On April 13, 2013, 23-year-old Ankur Shaw left his home in Kasba, accompanied by his driver Jitendra Shaw (24) and friend Raj Kumar Pandey alias Tinku (27) for Howrah to attend birthday party of Tinku, a resident of DH Road. While Ankur was rescued from a neighbouring state 10 days later, Jitendra’s body was found on April 23 in Deuri PS area.
Tinku and four of his friends Dilip Sharma, Rakesh alias Kishore Pandey, Kameswar Pandit and Sukhdev Yadav were later arrested.
