19 Bengali films compete for IFFI’s Indian Panorama

KOLKATA: As many as 19 Bengali films are competing to be selected in the Indian Panorama of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). These were part of the 178 Indian feature films that have been submitted for selection. The 13 jury members of Indian Panorama have already watched the films and sent their selection to the ministry.
Among the Bengali films in contention are Suman Mukhopadhyay’s ‘Asamapta’, Abhijit Das’ ‘Poka – The Vermin’, Ranjan Ghosh’s ‘Rong Berong Er Kori’, Riingo’s ‘Messi’, Atanu Ghosh’s ’72 Ghanta’, Anik Dutta’s ‘Meghnadh Badh Rahasya’, Arindam Sil’s ‘Dhananjoy’, Premangshu Roy’s ‘Chilekotha’, Karhsik Ganguly’s ‘Bisorjon’, Shreelekha Mukherjee’s ‘Chaoroibeti’, Pratim D Gupta’s ‘Maacher Jhol’, Shankudeb Panda’s ‘Commrade’, Gautam Sen’s ‘Dhrubokatha’, Arnab Kumar Middya’s ‘Andarkahini’, Amitava Bhattacharya’s ‘Red Oliender’s Roktokorobi’, Reshmi Mitra’s ‘Baranda’, Tanmoy Modak’s ‘Gun of Garbage’ and Agnidev Chatterjee’s ‘Gaheen Hriday’.
Said a source, “The Indian Panorama jury is headed director Sujoy Ghosh. The members list includes the likes of Ruchi Narayan, Rahul Rawail,
Nishikant Kamat, Nikhil Advani, Apoorva Asrani, Juhi Chaturvedi, Merlvin Mukhim, Suresh Heblikar, Gopi Desai, Hari Viswanath, Gyan Correa and Satarupa Sanyal, among others.” The jury members have watched the films in Mumbai from September 23. Their exercise got over on October 14.
This year, IFFI has a 40-member preview committee. The members of this committee are Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Khalid Mohamed, Aarti Bajaj, Ramesh Patange, Naresh Chander Lal, Narendra Kohli, Saibal Chatterjee, Abhimanyu Singh, Bhawana Somaaya, Jeevitha Rajasekhar, Gautami Tadimalla, Nitesh Tiwari, GS Bhaskar, Pallavi Joshi, Raja Krishna Menon, Siddharth Kak, Bela Segal, Tarun Katial, Hrishitaa Bhatt, Abhishek Jain, Abhishek Basu, Santwana Bordoloi, Bhaskar Hazarika, Pradip Kurbah, Dominic Megam Sangma, Maipaksana Haorongbam, Zuala Chhangte, Sachidanand Joshi, Bharat Gupt, Nirmala Sharma, Rathi Vinay Jha, Parvathi Menon, Rajesh Kumar Singh, Anil Rastogi, Punit Asthana, Ajay Malkani, Bhumenjoy Konsam, Sangee Dorjee Thongdok and Lavlin Thadani. This committee is chaired by Vivek Agnihotri.
The steering committee is chaired by Jahnu Baruah. The members include Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, Bharat Bala, Anand Gandhi, Shoojit Sircar, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Piyush Pandey, Prasoon Joshi, Shaji N. Karun, Meren Imchen and Vani Tripathi.
