BHATPARA

: A 17-year-old student of a

Barrackpore

school, Abhishek Chatterjee, died of dengue on Saturday morning. Chatterjee, a resident of Kakinada, was admitted to a hospital off EM Bypass in a critical condition on Friday.

According to a source, he started complaining of fever 10 days ago after which he was admitted to Bhatpara State General Hospital. When there was no improvement in his condition, his relatives sent his blood samples to a private clinic. Abhishek’s kin on Saturday said the results showed that he tested positive for NS1. He was admitted to the hospital in Kolkata on Friday, but his

platelet

count had dipped to 32,000 by then.

Locals on Saturday claimed that many people in the area under ward number 10 of Bhatpara Municipality are suffering from high fever. Bhatpara Municipality chairman and local MLA Arjun Singh said, “I don’t yet know about any dengue death in the area.”
