10 film stars waiting to join BCP?

At a press conference held in north Kolkata, Bangio Chalachitra Paridhad (BCP), a newly formed apolitical body for poor technicians and artisans of the film, television and jatra industry of Bengal, claimed that at least 10 film actors and 126 jatra artistes are ready to join their union. But BCP couldn’t reveal their names because they might face problems from a certain political party.

Bhowmik said since the news of Madhabidi joining BCP broke, she hasn’t been able live in peace. “We know that a few people are constantly calling her and the lady hasn’t been able to sleep at night. You tell us, why are these people doing it? They are clearly threated by the existence of BCP and the way we are influencing people against politicising Tollywood,” he added.

Though the main agenda of BCP is to form an apolitical body, the organisation itself is headed by BJP activist Shankudeb Panda. When asked about this dilemma and how the union will remain apolitical, Milan Bhowmik said, “Along with his political views, Shankudeb Panda has directed two films and has been associated with the film fraternity for many years. That’s why he is heading the organisation,” he added. Actress

Mukherjee, another member, agreed. “People can have their own political agenda, but we have nothing to do with that. If someone from TMC comes to us and asks for help, we will help them gladly,” she said.
