KOLHAPUR: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar said on Sunday that the immediate priority was to ensure that people in power at the Centre were voted out as there was a need for change and all parties under the INDIA front have come together to meet this objective. Pawar's statement comes amid reports of his 'secret' meeting with nephew Ajit Pawar.
Pawar was responding to a query by reporters at Sangola in Solapur district as to whether he was anticipating any differences within the front over who would be the face of INDIA following Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's return to the Parliament after his 2-year sentence in a defamation case was stayed by the Supreme Court. "Definitely not," Pawar said while spelling out the immediate priority of the INDIA front.
The impending meeting of the INDIA front leaders in Mumbai on September 1 will be focused on discussing specific issues and framing a strategy, he said and added, a preliminary agenda for the meet will be drafted a day before on August 31. "Two meetings (of INDIA) have taken place so far. Myself, Uddhav Thackeray and Nana Patole are hosting the third meeting. Invitations have been sent to 40 leaders. We believe that people will vote BJP out of power as they do not like the misuse of power and BJP's politics of breaking political parties" said Pawar.
Pawar reiterated, "In my capacity as the NCP chief, it is our clear position that the NCP will never go with the BJP at any stage. The BJP's ideology does not suit us."
On Manipur, Pawar said the issue remains a very serious problem for the country considering that parts of China and Myanmar are bordering the North Eastern states and all parties needed to take a serious view in the interest of the country. In this context, he said, "Prime Minister's Narendra Modi's reply to the recent no trust motion in the Parliament had no adequate mention about Manipur but the entire speech focused on attacks on opposition out of political hate."
Earlier, Pawar shared the dais with deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis at the unveiling of a statue of the late PWP leader Ganpatrao Deshumkh at Sangola.
