police has arrested two men — one trainee doctor and an employee of a chemist shop — for allegedly selling remdesivir injections in the black market.

The arrested men have been identified as Yogiraj Rajkumar Waghmare (24), a resident of Manumaya apartment in Shahupuri, and Parag Vijaykumar Patil (24), a resident of

Ganesh Colony

in Kasba Bawda.

Police investigation has revealed that Patil works in a chemist shop while Waghmare is a trainee doctor at the taluka medical college. Police have seized 11 vials of remdesivir from the duo.

Acting on a tip off, the LCB sleuths had first laid a trap near Manumaya apartment. The cops found three vials of remdisivir with Waghmare and he could not explain why he had them.

Waghmare told the police that Parag Patil used to supply him the vials and was supposed to meet him. Police again laid a trap and waited for Patil. When he came to Waghmare’s residence, the police nabbed him and found eight more vials of remdesivir with him.

Police said the two men were selling each vial of the injection for Rs 18,000. Primary investigation has indicated the involvement of three more people, PI Tanaji Sawant said. He added that Parag Patil was the kingpin of the racket.

Food and Drugs official Sapna Suresh Ghunkikar has lodged an official police complaint. Patil and Waghmare have been booked under various sections of the IPC, Food and Drugs Control Act and Essential Services Maintenance Act.
