KOLHAPUR: After a chaotic three days, the regional transport office (RTO) in Kolhapur finally inched back to normalcy.
Deputy regional transport officer Rajendra Varma said, "We have already put up a request with the company to change the motherboard of the computer attached to the server. The data is now being uploaded and it will be stored for next few days at the temporarily arranged storage system."
With no data being uploaded, the functioning at the officer had gone haywire.

The Kolhapur office receives 300 different applications every day for learning and permanent license, while another 100 applications for allied activities.
Avinash Jadhav, a college going student, was one of the thousands to suffer whose data could not be uploaded due to a technical snag that developed in the server.
He said, "I bunked college so that I could submit my learning license as well as complete any pending procedure. As most of the data feeding, photographs and signature on the card is online, I had to go to three different tables, wait in the queue and finally learnt that the data could not be uploaded immediately."
Like Jadhav, there were thousands others who faced a similar problem, as their documents were accepted, but data could not be uploaded immediately.

The state RTO had appointed two companies for server support across the state. The main computer attached to the server of Kolhapur RTO developed some problem on Monday. The investigation in the system found that the motherboard was damaged completely and had to be replaced.
It took two more days for the office to shift its entire uploading function to an alternate arrangement where the data of the applicants for learning license, permanent license, and loan processing of the documents would be stored for the next few days. Sources at the RTO said that the system is already overloaded with the data entry.
Kolhapur RTO office covers Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara and Karad offices, where lakhs of vehicles their documents apart from fresh licenses and registration applications are received on daily basis as well as on routine basis. The vehicles, purchased on loan from banks have to obtain various clearances, no-objection certificates from the RTO offices. Every time, an application is filed, it has to be uploaded completely, adding load on to the system.
