Thief steals gold jewellery worth Rs 28 lakh from house in Kolhapur
Kolhapur: A thief stole gold jewellery weighing 195gm, worth roughly Rs 28 lakh, from a bungalow near Ramanmala post office in Kolhapur between Jan 31 and Feb 6. However, the theft came to light on Friday. A complaint was filed by Pushpa Raut, a 49-year-old resident of Pune, at the Shahupuri police station.According to information from Shahupuri police, Raut's sister, Ujjwala Shinde, lives in the Ramanmala area of the city. Raut had come to Kolhapur to attend the wedding of her niece, which took place on Feb 7.Raut and her family arrived in Kolhapur on Jan 31 and brought about 290gm of gold jewellery with them. As the wedding was eight days away and the family stayed at a hotel, Raut gave the jewellery bag to her sister's daughter, Kalyani Bhalkar, to keep it in the house's locker. Along with Raut, Vedanti Doifode also gave a 15gm jewellery bag to Bhalkar to keep in the locker.On the eve of the wedding, Raut came to her sister's house to collect the jewellery bag. Doifode also asked about her jewellery, but there was no jewellery in the bag. The family searched the house, but the jewellery was not found.Ankush Karande, sub-inspector at the Shahupuri police station, said, "Pushpa Raut's jewellery included a gold necklace weighing 85gm, four gold bangles weighing 45gm, two gold bracelets weighing 35gm, a necklace weighing 15gm, and a ring weighing 5gm, whereas Vedanti's jewellery included 10gm earrings and a 5gm ring. The thief stole only gold jewellery. There is no evidence of any damage anywhere in the house. We suspect that someone in the known network may have been involved in the theft."
