KOLHAPUR: City’s Swimming Hub Foundation has written to Union sports minister Anurag Thakur, requesting him to hold national-level swimming competitions for schools which have not been held after the dissolution of the state swimming federation.
Hatkanangle MP Dhairyashil Mane, too, has written to the minister urging him to pay heed to the concern and address the demand.
Ramesh More, a member of the foundation, said, “Class 10 and 12 students swimming since childhood will not receive grace marks in pan-India competitions if national tournaments are not held for them. Also, they will not get the encouragement needed to pursue a career in the sport.”
More said state-level competitions are held across the country. “The top three swimmers participate at the national level. Also, those winning national contests get a chance to participate in international school competitions. It will be a grave injustice to the swimmers if they miss a chance this year,” he added.
