Satej Patil re-appointed Congress Kolhapur president, Kesakar new city chief
Kolhapur: Congress MLC Satej Patil has been re-appointed president of the party’s Kolhapur district unit, with the All India Congress Committee announcing a fresh set of organisational appointments across district and city units.
The AICC, through general secretary C Venugopal, cleared the changes following consultations by party observers with local workers and office-bearers in recent weeks.
In Kolhapur city, the party replaced Sachin Chavan with KMC corporator Pravin Kesarkar as unit president. Sources said Patil’s reappointment was influenced by the party’s performance under his leadership, where despite not coming to power in local bodies, Congress secured a sizeable number of seats in the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation and zilla parishad.
“In 2019, under adverse conditions, I was made district party president. We went on to win the assembly, Lok Sabha election. The observers recommended the names after they spoke to the party workers. Once again the party has bestowed me with the responsibility, I will do my best to strengthen the party base in the district and win elections,” Patil said after his re-appointment.
Sanjay Kamble has been appointed president of the Ichalkaranji city unit, a position he has held for the past seven years. He had remained with Congress after the district chief Prakash Awade quit the party to contest the assembly election as an independent.
The AICC also named Namdev Patil as Satara district president, Chetan Narote as Solapur city chief, Shatgar Satling Annarao as Solapur rural east president, Sandip Sathe as Solapur rural west president, Rajesh Naik as Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad city president, and former MLA Vikramsinha Sawant as Sangli rural president.
