KOLHAPUR: The third Kolhapur International Film Festival (KIFF) has crossed the 500 registration mark as of Monday. An organiser said that the number of registrations is important as the first film fest hardly had 300 registrations and second film festival saw 400 registrations.
The film festival, which is screening more than 70 full-length films and short films, has a nominal fee of Rs 400 for the general audience.
Film society members and students will get a discount of Rs 200
Chandrakant Joshi, Kalamaharashi Baburao Painter Film Society president and head of the KIFF organising committee, said, “Though it was the second day of the seven-day festival, registrations are still attracting a large audience. The 500 registrations have boosted our confidence that citizens are excited to experience world cinema.”
On festival arrangements, he said, “Sometimes when the audience complains to us about some error while showing the cinema or the subtitles not displaying properly, it shows that they are immersing themselves in the experience.”
The Kalamaharashi Baburao Painter Film Society has jointly organized the third Kolhapur International Film Festival (KIFF), along with the Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal, and the National Film Archive of India (NFAI). The festival was inaugurated on Saturday, last week and will conclude on December 27.
The seven-day festival is screening cinema from China, South Korea, Iran, France, Taiwan, Israel, Brazil, Italy, UK and the USA. It is also screening Indian movies, in languages like Malayalam, Bengali, Hindi, Kannada and Assamese. The festival will also confer awards such as best director, best director (viewers’ choice), best actor and best script. Some movies by the late Marathi director, Anant Mane will also be screened at the festival.
What’s in store
The organizers have arranged three screens at the Shahu smarak bhavan to accommodate the cinema lovers. Most of the films will be repeated in the next half of the event, scheduled to start from Tuesday, December 23. This will enable the audience to watch the same films on a different screen and timing, if they missed an earlier show.
