New KMC building to come up on 5 acres in Shenda Park
Kolhapur: District collector Amol Yedge has directed that five acres of land in Shenda Park, currently under Mahatma Phule Agricultural University, be transferred for constructing a new administrative building for the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation. The move comes in light of the inadequacy of the British-era KMC headquarters, which also lacks proper parking facilities.Kolhapur South MLA Amal Mahadik confirmed that land development. "After sustained follow-up, collector Yedge on Feb 6 approved the reservation of two hectares in group number 602/2 of Mahatma Phule Agricultural University for KMC's administrative building. Following this directive, KMC's name has been added to the 7/12 title deed of the land," MLA Mahadik told TOI.Given Kolhapur's expanding urban footprint and rising population, a proposal was submitted to the district collector, supported by guardian minister Prakash Abitkar and co-guardian minister Madhuri Misal, to establish a new KMC administrative complex on the Agricultural University's Shenda Park land. This approval has cleared the path for developing the new KMC headquarters. Mahadik said the 5-acre site would accommodate the main administrative building, parking facilities, a civic amenities centre, various offices and chambers, as well as an auditorium.
"The tender process would commence soon," he added.Ajit Pawar's earlier assurance of Rs 80 croreFormer deputy chief minister late Ajit Pawar had pledged Rs 80 crore in the first phase for the project. When the proposal initially sought 2 acres, Ajit Pawar had instructed that the allocation be increased to 5 acres, stressing that the plan was to build a full-fledged administrative complex for the city, not just a small structure.MSID:: 128208390 413 |
