Ritesh Kumar, who took charge of the Kolhapur range from Tukaram Chavan ,on Saturday said his priority would be to maintain law and order and keep a check on crime. He added that he would hold a meeting of top police officers from the five districts under his jurisdiction.
A pass-out of 1992 batch, Ritesh Kumar began his career with in Kolhapur as the trainee deputy superintendent of police in 1994.
He later worked in the range as the sangli SP in 2002. His last posting was in Aurangabad as the IG. Chavan has been transferred to the Maharashtra State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation as the additional DG of police on promotion.
"The crime rate has gone up in the Kolhapur range and my priority will be to keep it in check. Maintaining law and order in the region is also important," Kumar said.
Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Solapur (Rural) and Pune (Rural) come under the Kolhapur Range.
