KOLHAPUR: Nationalist
Congress Party (NCP) corporator Adil Faras might lose the post in the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) with the divisional caste verification committee finding the caste certificate submitted by him during the 2010 civic body elections invalid.
Faras is the second corporator after Congress's Sachin Chavan, who had also submitted an invalid caste certificate to contest the polls.
Faras had contested the elections from Shahu Maidan ward, which was reserved for the other backward class category. Faras had contested the elections by presenting a certificate of Bawarchi caste. Ratnadeep Kundale, Shivsena candidate then had moved to the committee and had sought verification of the caste certificate presented by Faras. The committee after scrutinising the documents confirmed on Thursday that the certificate is invalid, the report of which is with TOI.
Kundale, while talking to TOI, said, "The corporator has misguided the voters by submitting the invalid caste certificate. We are going to the state election commission to cancel the post of Faras and request to file criminal complaint against him. There are many such candidates in the KMC who had contested the elections by submitting fake caste certificates. We will bring such cases to public."
Faras refused to comment on the issue. However, according to his close aide, Faras is going to appeal to the Bombay High Court over the decision given by divisional caste validation committee.
