Kolhapur still grapples with water scarcity
Kolhapur: The two water-lifting pumps of the Kalammawadi direct pipeline scheme are still in the works, continuing the water cuts in Kolhapur city.
Repair works are ongoing by the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) and several parts of the city, especially slum pockets, continued to reel under water scarcity on Friday.
The A, B, C, and D wards of the city complained of low pressure and inadequate water supply. KMC water supply engineer Harshjit Ghatge said, "The water supply was disrupted due to pump failure of the direct pipeline scheme. Two out of four sump pumps are closed. Although the Balinga scheme is ongoing, the water supply to the entire city is limited. The pump repair work of the direct pipeline scheme is ongoing and is likely to be completed by Friday night, after which the supply will resume. Water tankers have been deployed in the areas affected by water scarcity."
Meanwhile, citizens are expressing their frustration over KMC for water cuts.
Sachin Kamble, a resident living in Timber Market, said, "In the first month of the new year, the Kolhapur civic body carried out water cuts in the city for nearly fourteen days till now. Water being the most essential thing, lack of water supply results in extreme inconvenience in every household."
In late Dec, the city was also facing water cuts due to ongoing repair of the 110KV main power line of the Balinga substation.
