Kolhapur: The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding with IIT-Mandi to seek technical collaboration for smart city projects.
Mayor Rouparani Nikam and KMC commissioner Rajendra Bharud signed on behalf of KMC, while IIT-Mandi's dean (finance) Satvasheel Pawar and Amit Shukla signed on behalf of IIT Mandi.
Mayor Rouprani Nikam said, "This collaboration is expected to bring about significant changes in Kolhapur. Initiatives such as the ‘Safe City' project, smart CCTV and AI-based surveillance systems, real-time monitoring, emergency response mechanisms, traffic management, crowd management at tourist sites, digital amenities, GIS-based urban planning, and data-driven decision-making processes are slated to be implemented. Additionally, emphasis will be placed on smart water management, pollution control, smart lighting, waste management, parking solutions, and the establishment of an Integrated Command and Control Centre."
IIT Mandi's dean Satvasheel Pawar said, "IIT Mandi is recognized as one of the top 10 premier IITs in the country, possessing extensive expertise in the fields of Smart City solutions, AI, drone technology, and urban innovation. Consequently, Kolhapur is set to receive world-class technical guidance, which will aid in transforming the city into a safer, eco-friendly, and citizen-centric urban center".
