Heavy rains lash flood affected Solapur district, red alert in place till Sunday
KHOLAPUR: The flood-affected Solapur district, slowly recovering from the flood situation, was lashed with incessant overnight rains. The IMD issued a 'Red' alert for Solapur district for Saturday and Sunday, and the flood situation is likely to worsen due to ongoing rains.
The Sina River, a tributary of the Bhima River, is currently discharging 75,817 cusecs. The Sina and Bhima rivers in Solapur district are overflowing above their danger levels.
As many as 792 villages in the district were badly affected by the floods, along with heavy rains, causing significant damage to crops and properties.
Due to heavy rains received overnight, the discharge from the Ujani Dam was further increased to 70,000 cusecs from Saturday 8 am onwards. S Dumbre, Executive Engineer, Ujani Dam Management, said, "This additional discharge will further raise the Bhima River water level in Solapur. Everyone is requested not to enter the river basin. People from low-lying areas should shift their material and animals to a safe place immediately."
The gram panchayats from the flood-affected villages in Mohol tehsil on Saturday alerted residents about the increasing water level with the help of loudspeakers and beating drums. The villagers are being urged to move immediately to a safer place along with their cattle.
Solapur district reported 52.9 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours recorded until Saturday 8:30 am. Shivane and Mahud circle from Sangola tehsil reported the highest rainfall of 110 mm. Tehsil-wise rainfall received in Solapur is as follows: North Solapur 51.3 mm, South Solapur 50.1 mm, Barshi 38.8 mm, Akkalkot 52.4 mm, Mohol 47.9 mm, Madha 56.2 mm, Karmala 54.4 mm, Pandharpur 55.9 mm, Sangola 64.6 mm, Malshiras 65.2 mm, and Mangalwedha 40.4 mm.
Meanwhile, in Kolhapur district, incessant rains have been ongoing since early Saturday morning. The low rainfall zone in Kolhapur district reported the highest rainfall figures in the district. Shirol tehsil reported 68.2 mm, whereas Hatkanangale tehsil reported 43.3 mm of rainfall, with the average rainfall of Kolhapur district standing at 31.3 mm recorded until Saturday 8:30 am.
Heavy rains are being reported in the eastern side of Satara and Sangli districts. In Satara, Man Dahiwadi tehsil reported 52.4 mm of rainfall, whereas Khatav reported 47.3 mm of rainfall. The discharge from Koyna Dam in Satara commenced by lifting two radial gates to a height of 1 foot to discharge a total of 5,300 cusecs into the Koyna River.
Meanwhile, Sangli district reported an average of 50.6 mm of rainfall, with Kavathemahankal tehsil receiving the highest rainfall of 83.6 mm.
