Fake certificate may cost corporator his post
Kolhapur: Congress corporator Sachin Chavan is likely to lose the post in the civic body with the state-level caste verification committee finding the caste certificate submitted by him invalid.
Chavan had contested the 2010 civic body election from Nathagole Talim ward, a seat reserved for candidates from the other backward class category, by presenting a certificate that said he represented the Kunabi caste.

Chavan's rival in the fray, Madan Chodankar, later moved the panel, seeking verification of the caste certificate submitted by the Congress leader. After cross-checking the facts, the committee on September 25 said Chavan had produced a caste certificate that was invalid.
When contacted, Chavan told TOI, "I have received the copy of the order by the committee. We will appeal against the order to higher authorities."
