8 involved in running gambling dens externed
Kolhapur: The police have externed eight people from the district for 12 months for their involvement in running gambling dens. This according to the police will help in keeping a check on
Those externed have been identified as Vijay Lahu Patil, Ajit Sampatrao Bagal, Makarand Maruti Mudgal, Chandrakant Tulashidas Mane, Munna Babu Hukkeri, Hemant Baburao Ghorpade, Kishor Bajirao Mali and Pramod Ananda Hegade.
Nishikant Bhujbal, police inspector in-charge of Juna Rajwada police station, said, “We had sent a proposal to the office of superintendent of police to extern these 8 persons as they were involved in running gambling dens at various places. Following our proposal, superintendent of police Sanjay Mohite issued orders against these culprits under Section 55 of Bombay Police Act, 1951 to extern them from Kolhapur.”
He added, “Five of these eight persons are externed from Kolhapur district, while Ghorpade, Mali and Hegade have been externed from Kolhapur city and Karveer taluka for one year,” he said.
Along with these eight people, the police have identified 13 persons that were working with them as bookies. “We have warned them not to indulge in such activities and have taken written statement on a personal bond of Rs 50,000 from them in this regard. We will be keeping a watch on them and will take appropriate action against them as per law if they are found involved in such actions again,” Bhujbal said.
As per section 55 of Bombay Police Act, 1951, if the movement or encampment of any gang or body of persons is causing or is calculated to cause danger or alarm or reasonable suspicion that unlawful designs are entertained by such gang, or by members thereof, then such gangs/bodies of persons can be dispersed and ordered that they remove themselves outside the area.
