According to police officials, the complainant — 62-year-old Anusaya Hari Bendre — owns a plot that was registered on the name of her husband, who died in 2013. Two months ago, she came to know that the plot has been sold to one Nisar Sheikh by forged documents and signatures. Following this, she approached the police and lodged a complaint.

“After examining the documents and land record, we got hold of Nisar, middleman Javed along with Patvegar and Patel — witness to the deal. The main culprit in this case is still absconding. He has been identified as Tanaji Patil. We are searching for his whereabouts,” said a police officer attached with Shahupuri police station.

“We are also investigating to find out if the gang was involved in similar

types of transactions

and whether have cheated other people,” he added.
