KOLHAPUR: Four people have been arrested by police in two different cases of illegal sex determination in the rural parts of the district.

An all-out drive against illegal sex determination centres is jointly being carried out by the local health officials and personnel from the local crime branch as per directions from superintendent of police (SP) Shailesh Balkawade.

In the first incident, 35-year-old Vijay Lakshman Kolaskar was arrested from Madilge village in Bhudargad tehsil, while in the second case, three people — Shrimant Patil and his aides — were arrested from Kasba Walve village in Radhanagari tehsil.

In both the cases, undercover patients were sent to confirm illegal sex determination following which the premises were raided on Tuesday.

“We have recovered medicines and a sonography machine. Now we focussing on investigating the expanse of the racket,” police inspector of Bhudargad tehsil Sanjay More said.

The accused were presented before the local court on Wednesday and have been remanded in 10-day police custody.
