31st Road Safety Week to be held from Jan 11-17
Kolhapur: The Regional Transport Office (RTO),
Several programmes, including rallies, camps and awareness drives, workshops, social media campaigns and road safety programmes in schools and colleges, will be organised to spread awareness among people and students about road safety.
RTO officials said that this year they will mark the event in a peculiar way. They will felicitate the rule violators, signal jumpers and other defaulters found during the Road Safety Week by giving them a rose and requesting them not to commit such wrongdoings in the future.
“The number of road accidents continue to vary year-by-year as per the statistics. Also, the number of vehicles on the roads continue to increase every day in contray to the width and the length of the roads. In such instances, we can only educate people about following traffic rules and safe driving, especially the youngsters. Through this initiative, including seminars and workshops on the occasions of Road Safety Week, we will try and reach out to people, especially youngsters and inform them about the need of following traffic rules,” said a senior RTO official.
The official said that they have also identified accident-prone black spots in the district, adding that special efforts will be taken to reduce them.
“We will also launch several drives to keep a check on bikers and other motorists to ensure that they follow traffic rules,” he added.
