310 booked for several violations

Kolhapur: In a major crackdown against consuming alcohol in the open and smoking weed in public places, Kolhapur police have registered cases against 310 violators in 279 raids carried out since March 1.
The instances of people resorting to drinking alcohol in public, smoke weed in open and other substance abuses increase during Holi and Dhulivandan. Most of the violators are the youth. Drinking alcohol is banned as per the sections 84, 85 and 68 of Bombay Prohibition Act. Mangesh Desai, city's deputy superintendent of police said, “We have cracked down on people drinking in open spaces, public buildings, road sides. The violators usually choose the places which are inhabitable.”
