Currently, around 50% of the KMT's fleet of 129 buses is lying idle in the workshop. The workshop managers recently claimed that they are unable to get the spare parts to make the buses run again. They also claimed that the staff at the KMT workshop is inadequate and have to work in three shifts.
The buses have been going off road due to an increase in breakdowns in the last couple of months. This has affected the daily operations even on the major routes.
Sanjay Inamdar, public relations officer of KMT said, "We have 188 sanctioned posts, of which 80 are filled, rest are not filled due to poor financial conditions of the transport undertaking. Upon the recent issue of breakdowns, additional manager Tina Gawali made a surprise visit to the workshop and found 12 staffers not reporting for duty. She has asked to cut the salaries of these staffers."
The KMT has 129 buses, of these, 32 are non-useable, which means the buses have completed 15 lakh km of service and are not suitable for the road. Of the remaining 97 buses, 10 are being repaired for breakdown and 77 are on road. The remaining buses 10 are kept as spare to replace the buses breaking down.
