DIMAPUR: There are over 4,000 tuberculosis patients in Nagaland, and Mon district accounts for the highest number of cases.

Nagaland health and family welfare department commissioner and secretary Y Kikheto Sema said this during a visit to the Mon district hospital on Tuesday.

Sema said India has the highest number of TB patients in the world and the country plans to eliminate the disease by 2025. He added that the World Health Organization, under the Sustainable Development Board, plans to eradicate TB by 2030.

Terming the Mon district hospitals as one of the best facilities in terms of infrastructure, Sema urged the doctors, nurses, officers and residents of Mon to cooperate with the construction of the medical college.

Sema accompanied health and family welfare minister P Paiwang Konyak during his visit to the hospital.
