DIMAPUR: Girls have outshone boys in both the Class X and Class XII state boards, the results of which were out on Wednesday.
The High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination for Class X, and the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examination for Class XII were conducted by the Nagaland Board of School Education in March. NBSE chairperson Asano Sekhose said the total number of students enrolled in the exams was 40,446 - 24,361 in HSLC and 16,085 in HSSLC.
In the HSLC exam, 17,130 candidates were declared successful, recording a pass percentage of 70.32, she said.
The overall pass percentage in the HSLC exam this time is the highest in the last five years. Sekhose said 9,350 girls and 7,780 boys have passed the exam. In the top 20, there are 99 students, and of them, 66 are girls.
In the HSSLC exams, 16,085 candidates were enrolled and 13,428 of them have passed the exam.The pass percentage in the arts stream is 82.62%, commerce 85.83% and science 86.79%. While the pass percentage of girls in the arts stream is 86.20, it is 78.44% for boys; in commerce it is 90.34% for girls and 82.47% for boys and in the science stream, 90.39% for girls and 82.51% for boys.
In the HSLC exam, Christy Paul Mathew of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Dimapur stood first with 99% marks followed by Arti Kumari of Ram Janaki Higher Secondary School, Dimapur with 98.5% and Sneha Das of Little Flower School, Chumukedima 98.33%.
In the HSSLC exam, Moanola Longchar of Town Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung topped in the arts stream with 97.2%, Zahid Ahmed Laskar of Christian Higher Secondary School won the first rank in commerce stream with 99.2% and Awang P Yimpushu of St. John Higher Secondary Residential School stood first in science stream with 97%.
