Youth killed as bike rams electric post, brother injured

Kottayam: A youth, who arrived home from Saudi Arabia on a vacation, was killed when the two-wheeler he rode caught fire after it rammed an electric post in Vaikom around 2am on Saturday. His brother, who was riding pillion, was injured and has been hospitalized.Sreehari, 25, a native of TV Puram in Vaikom, and his brother Kasinathan, 22, suffered burn injuries as the bike they rode caught fire. Local residents informed the police and fire and rescue unit. The fire unit rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. Though Sreehari was rushed to Vaikom taluk hospital, he succumbed to injuries. Kasinathan has been admitted to a private hospital in Vaikom.Sreehari, who was working as a cook in Saudi Arabia, arrived home around 10pm on Friday. He and Kasinathan took a friend's bike and went to Vaikom to buy petrol. The mishap took place when they were returning home, said his relatives. The funeral was held on Saturday.
