KOCHI: CBI has informed the high court that it has not found the location of Jesna Mariya James, who went missing from Pathanamthitta in 2018. Recent news reports had said she was located and suggested that she is held captive by extremists and may be transported abroad.
In a report submitted to the high court about the progress of the investigation ordered by the court in February last year, CBI said it has issued a Yellow Notice, which is a global police alert for a missing person, so as to know whether Jesna is alive, within the country or outside.
Such a notice was issued two months ago as the missing person has not been traced out yet and the notice reaches police authorities in 191 countries and the Interpol, the court was told. All the facts related to the missing are being probed by it, CBI added.
The court is presently considering a petition filed by a Christian association seeking to speed up the probe.
Jesna had gone missing on March 22, 2018 and a CBI probe was ordered by the high court on February 19, 2021 after considering petitions, including one filed by the brother of the 22-year-old missing girl.
It is alleged by the Christian association that an effective investigation is not being carried out by the CBI. The agency should be directed to complete the probe in a time-bound manner and the probe should be monitored by the high court, the petitioner has demanded.
