Kochi: A male wild elephant was killed after biting a jackfruit stuffed with cracker in Kuttampuzha. The carcass of the 12-year-old tusker was found with severe injuries on its mouth at Vellaramkuthu tribal colony on Saturday.
Forest officials said they have registered a case in connection with the human aggression towards the tusker. The autopsy of the tusker was conducted.
Despite the forest officials' claim that they will probe the involvement of people in the incident, most of the time the officials find it difficult to identify and arrest the culprit due to lack of cooperation from locals.
This is the second incident in which a wild elephant died after biting a cracker in recent years. A pregnant wild elephant died in Mannarkkad after it bit a cracker-filled pineapple in 2020.
