TRIPUNITHURA: Vrishchikotsavam, the eight-day annual festival at Sree Poornathrayeesha temple, started here with a colourful procession of 15 caparisoned tuskers accompanied by 'Panchari Melam' by more than 120 percussionists headed by chenda maestro Peruvanam Kuttan Marar.

The ritualistic beginning of the festival began with the traditional of hoisting of the flag. Devaswom Sree Raman, the tusker owned by Cochin Devaswom Board, carried the 'Thidambu'.

The divine procession started in the morning with the 'Nadaswaram' by Vaikkom Aniruddhan and Gireesh.

Vivek Moozhikulam presented the Carnatic vocal concert and Nalacharitham Randaam Divasam Kathakali was also staged on the first day.
