KOCHI: Sleuths of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (
VACB
),
Kochi
unit, on Wednesday
arrested
a
village officer
while accepting bribe from a widow for completing transfer registration (pokkuvaravu) of a property.
The arrested has been identified as Aluva native Sudheer R, the village officer with Ayyampuzha village office near Angamaly.
Sudheer was arrested by a VACB team led by DSP M N Ramesh on a complaint filed by Aneesha Mol.
The woman had approached the officer to complete the transfer registration of a property for which a few documents had to be forwarded to tahsildar. Sudheer had allegedly demanded Rs 2,000 as bribe from the woman for the ‘easy transfer’ of documents. On Wednesday afternoon, she visited Sudheer at his office and handed over chemically treated currencies to him as directed by VACB officials. Vigilance sleuths who were waiting outside arrested him red-handed.
“Sudheer was maintaining 36 chit fund accounts and five bank accounts. Of the 36 chit fund deposits, 20 were with the state government run KSFE and 16 with a cooperative society,” said vigilance officials.
VACB Kochi unit will submit a report to the special cell to register a separate case and probe suspected amassment of wealth by Sudheer.
