The trial proceedings in the sensational Varappuzha sex scandal relating to the trafficking of a 16-year-old girl will begin in October.

KOCHI: The trial proceedings in the sensational Varappuzha sex scandal relating to the trafficking of a 16-year-old girl will begin in October. Shobha John of Thirumala in Thiruvananthapuram, a goon and an accused in several criminal cases, is the main accused in the case.
The trial will begin on October 3 after charges against John and other accused in the case were framed by additional sessions court judge K Kamanees.

John, Anil Kumar alias Kepan Ani of Sasthamangalam, Pushpavathi of Kasaragod, Vinod Kumar of Payyanur, Shyson Thomas of Gothuruth, Dennis alias Arun of Meenangadi, Sunil Joy of Thrikkakara, Joshi Joseph of Kolencherry, Muhammed Basheer of Kasaragod, Thahira of Mancherry, Zacharia of Pathanamthitta, Shijil of Karumthottil and Gautham Ashok of Madurai are the accused to face trial in the first phase.
The sex scandal took place in 2011. The minor girl was raped by several men after being taken to Bengaluru and Kasaragod.
Special public prosecutor: Advocate Sreelal Warrier has been appointed as the special public prosecutor for trial in the remaining cases of Paravoor sex scandal in which a minor girl was subjected to serial rape in 2010. Warrier is replacing C P Mohan Menon who passed away in January.
